Adult Attention Deficit. I thought it was in my Head
Though many people don’t believe me, I know that I have adult attention deficit. It is something that I have always had, though my brothers were cursed with the more troubling cases of ADHD. Though I never had the hyper part of the problem, they had to deal with it. I always had a problem with paying attention, especially in class, and this is something that has followed me around for my entire life. Though it dims some with age, I still have issues with it here and there.

I always assumed that the problem was in my head. I think most people who have adult attention deficit think this way. These people find that they cannot concentrate on anything for too long. Your mind is always working and it is always dragging you in a different direction. As I typed that last line three different and unrelated thoughts popped into my mind, and that is the way it has always been for me. Those with adult attention deficit have that problem and they don’t even realize what is going on.
I have found that most of the cases of adult attention deficit are in women. This is not an answer based on any sort of research or published information. That is my own observation. I don’t know how correct that is, but that is what I have found in my own life and in the lives of those I know. Though my brothers had ADHD as they were growing up, they seem to have grown out of it. All of those that I know who are struggling with adult attention deficit are women.
If you think that you may be dealing with adult attention deficit, you should talk to your doctor. I don’t know if there is any help out there, but if there is, you may find relief. I have learned to live with my problem, and I can keep my adult attention deficit under control if I make sure I take frequent breaks during my day. Though I have the luxury of working from home, I know that this is not always possible for those who work in a structured work environment. You may find that if you break things up into smaller segments you can actually get more done. You may not be able to control you adult attention deficit completely this way, but it may offer you some sort of relief that helps you get through your days more easily.
